Reflecting on another year of serving the fatherless, and looking forward to what's ahead.

Whether you’re brand new to the Psalm68Five community or you’ve been walking with us for a while, we just want to start by saying thank you. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community during this end-of-year giving campaign. Thank you to everyone who was able to donate to our end of year matching fund challenge. This year was the biggest yet!

Through your contributions of $156,000, combined with a $150,000 matching gift, we have secured a total of $306,000 to fuel the mission of Psalm68Five in the coming year.

Stories From Camp

Marty lives at home with his mom and three siblings. His father has had all rights to the kids terminated. Marty first attended camp with his family during a family camp event, then later tried out day camp. He had a hard time transitioning from home to camp. Saying goodbye to mom was so hard for him to overcome. During the day, Marty would do a lot better after he warmed up to people and camp. He had a few days of success and then stopped coming because he couldn't handle saying goodbye to mom. The next summer, Marty returned as a day camper. On day one he jumped out of the car, said goodbye to mom and was ready to go. The camp staff watched Marty have huge success participating in activities, making friends, having positive relationships with the Cabin Leaders, and being independent from his mom. This time Marty made it through the whole week of camp! The growth that God did in him was incredible to see. Marty shared that he had decided to accept Jesus into his heart on the way home from Camp earlier in the week.

What's Next: TBRI Training

We are excited to share that Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training is happening again this year! Camp staff from over 30 Christian camps all over the country will be joining us in North Carolina this month to learn more about working with kids who have experienced trauma. A Word from our Board President: Breaking Generational Fatherlessness

Fatherlessness is not a one-and-done problem; generational fatherlessness continues to harm families and communities in ever-increasing ways. Fatherlessness is often perpetuated by deep-seated beliefs about identity and worth. At Psalm68Five, we've witnessed how children raised without fathers can internalize labels like "unwanted" or "destined to fail," leading them to repeat the same cycles of absence and brokenness. Yet, rooted in the truth of Psalm 68:5, where God is declared a Father to the fatherless, we are working on equipping single moms to shatter these chains and declare "this ends with me".

As board president, I invite you to join us in prayer as we seek new ways to empower single moms and fatherless kids to seek healing of their "father wounds" through intimacy with God The Father. Together, let's pray for divine opportunities to declare over these families: "It stops here," raising a generation that knows their Heavenly Father intimately and lives out the identity He gives them through faith in Jesus Christ as their source of righteousness.

God as Father: A Devotional From Our Executive Director

Have you ever fallen asleep while praying? This topic came up in a group of pastors I was with a couple of weeks ago. Some were uncomfortable with the idea at first; they thought it might be disrespectful towards our creator to fall asleep while talking to Him. And I’m sure there are a lot of situations where it would be disrespectful, but then the oldest man there spoke up. He had been silent until this point, and I don’t remember if this was his own thought or if he was sharing something from someone he had read, but this is what he said. “I have never known a father who did not love it when his children fell asleep in his arms”. People who grew up without a father, or with a harsh or abusive father, usually have trouble understanding the Father heart of God. It is easy for them to think of Him as the king, the boss, or the Lord (all people who it would feel rather strange to sleep in front of), and they put Father into the same category as these other titles. But that view leaves out the most important part of having God as your heavenly father. I am reminded of this quote by Timothy Keller: "The only person who dares wake up a king at 3:00 a.m. for a glass of water is a child. We have that kind of access." Don’t forget that your Heavenly Father is more than a boss; He is the person who loves you more than anyone else. You can go to Him when you are tired. You can let your guard down and crawl into His lap. He will be there to comfort you in your afflictions. "I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:18)
